The Counselor's Guide to the Student-Athlete Advising Process

This course provides participants with the information they need to advise students who are interested in college athletics.

 

The basics

  • Intended audience: Secondary school and independent counselors who advise student-athletes; parents and guardians of student-athletes as they support their child through the admission process.
  • Cost: $60 for NACAC members, $110 for nonmembers.
    • A 20 percent discount is available for offices of four or more participants registering for the same course.
  • Estimated completion time: Three hours.
    • Participants have six months to access and complete the course.
  • Upon completion: Three continuing education credit hours and a completion certificate.

 

Course description

As a counselor, you are charged with knowing the basics to provide accurate information on athletic recruitment to students. The Counselor’s Guide to the Student-Athlete Advising Process is an insider’s guide to college athletics that provides all the information you need in one convenient place.  The course consists of seven on-demand lessons packed with easy-to-understand information, interactive modules, tools, and step-by-step guides. With this course, you will:   

Understand the role of the NCAA and other major college athletics organizations (including Esports).    Discover how to help your student navigate the admission, decision, and committing process.  Learn about key deadlines, the importance of finding the right college fit, and how to preserve your student’s eligibility.
