In this professional certificate course, participants will learn about different recruitment programs, their impact, how to build effective survey tools, and create new programming and modify existing ones in the context of admission.

 

The basics

  • Intended audience: Postsecondary admission officers.
  • Cost: $225 for NACAC members, $400 for nonmembers.
  • Estimated completion time: Five weeks.
    • Participants have six months to access and complete the course.
    • Approximately two-three hours per week
  • Upon completion: A completion certificate and a digital badge.

 

Course description

This course is designed to assist admission professionals explore different types of recruitment programs and understand their contributions to achieve institutional goals. Participants will learn to develop, refine, and innovate programming to tackle unique enrollment challenges effectively. The course will also review how to build targeted survey tools and document and evaluate the impact of recruitment efforts to influence the admissions funnel. Participants will create a new event or enhance a current event for their respective institution, building out all aspects of a data-informed recruitment program and elevating their admission strategy.

After taking this course, you will be able to:

  • Explain the different types of recruitment programs and how they contribute to the achievement of institutional goals.
  • Measure the impact of recruitment programs at each funnel stage.
  • Document objectives for recruitment programs.
  • Build effective survey tools in the context of admissions programming.
  • Create new programming and modify existing programming to address specific challenges in achieving enrollment objectives.

Program Director

As program director, Dr. Beverly Woodson-Day has helped plan and develop this course as a subject matter expert currently working in the field. She will provide instruction and support directly to the participants in the course.

Dr. Beverly Woodson Day is the assistant vice president for enrollment management and director of admissions at Texas State University. She has been in the admission profession for over 29 years. She spent 21 years of her career at Texas State University and eight years at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) where she held roles of interim assistant vice president for strategic enrollment, and senior director of recruitment and admissions. She has been involved at the state and national level, including the Texas ACAC President Cycle, Higher Education Curriculum Chair for Admissions and College Counseling Institute, College Board advisory groups, faculty for NACAC’s Guiding the Way to Inclusion (GWI), NACAC committees, College Board council member, and has contributed to articles, professional development presentations and panels on admission, recruitment, data, professional development, and diversity. She has also completed the Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) Endorsement Program through the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO) and is on the SEM-EP National Registry.

Beverly holds a bachelor’s in physics, masters in developmental and adult education, and Doctor of Philosophy in adult, professional, and community education (APCE) from Texas State University. She is published in The Journal of College Admission and is a contributing author to Dare to Be a Difference Maker, Volume 5.





Curriculum Advisor

As curriculum advisor, David Burge has been an integral part of the planning and development of this course. He provides guidance and feedback to the program director.

David Burge has served as Vice President for Enrollment Management at George Mason University since July 2015. Before coming to Mason, he served as Executive Director of Admission Services at Arizona State University and oversaw the execution of new student enrollment strategy for undergraduate and graduate, domestic and international students. Other professional experience includes the University of Kansas and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, holding senior leadership roles within each institution’s Office of Admissions and Scholarships.

David served as president of the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) in 2017-18 and as President of the Great Plains Association for College Admission Counseling (GPACAC) in 2007-08. For six years, Mr. Burge was the faculty lead of the Admissions Middle Management Institute – a longstanding NACAC pre-conference workshop.

A native Kansan, his academic background includes two degrees from the University of Kansas: an undergraduate degree in English Literature and a master’s degree in Educational Policy and Leadership.
